 Solar Power: The Process Overview


Solar power is energy from the sun that is converted into electricity or heat. It is a renewable energy source because sunlight is naturally available and does not run out like fossil fuels (such as coal, oil, and gas).


The most common use is solar panels that convert sunlight into electricity for homes, businesses, and other applications.


How solar power works?


1. Sunlight hits the solar panels.


Solar panels contain many solar cells (usually made from silicon). When sunlight hits these cells, it creates an electrical reaction.


2. Solar cells produce electricity.


The sunlight causes electrons inside the solar cells to move, creating direct current (DC) electricity.




3. An inverter converts the electricity.


Homes usually use alternating current (AC) electricity, so an inverter changes DC power from the panels into AC power.


4. Electricity is used or stored.


The electricity can:

  • Power appliances immediately
  • Charge batteries for later use
  • Send extra electricity back to the power grid (depending on local systems)

For a hot, sunny country like the Philippines, solar can be especially useful because many homes receive strong sunlight throughout the year. A common setup is grid-tied solar (connected to the electric utility) or solar + battery backup for areas with frequent power interruptions.



Overall verdict, though you will need to produce a large sum of money for installation, solar panels offers a great advantages, not only a sustainable source but also environmentally friendly energy solution with long-term financial benefits.
